There is something incredibly special about walking into a family’s home during those first weeks with a new baby. As an Orinda newborn photographer, I get to witness the quiet, tender rhythm of this season—and this session was such a beautiful example of that.
Just a few months ago, we were at the beach documenting their pregnancy, wind in mom’s dress and big brother excited about becoming a sibling. It felt so meaningful to reconnect with them again, this time in their light-filled home, finally meeting their baby girl. Watching families grow over time is one of my favorite parts of being an Orinda newborn photographer. There’s a sense of continuity that makes the images even more personal.
Big brother was completely smitten. He stayed close, gently touching her tiny hands and proudly sitting beside her whenever he could. We kept everything relaxed and natural. They were reading books together on the couch, snuggling on the bed, soaking in the cozy calm that fills a home with a newborn. Their baby girl slept peacefully through much of the session. She was stretching and yawning in that sweet, unhurried way only brand new babies do.
I’m always drawn to simple moments: soft window light spilling across the room, parents leaning in for quiet kisses, the way a toddler carefully studies his baby sister’s face. These are the memories that fade the fastest, which is why documenting them matters so much.
All of their images were captured on professional film for true-to-life skin tones and that instant sense of nostalgia. Film slows everything down and preserves the softness of these early days so beautifully. As an Orinda newborn photographer, it’s an honor to turn these fleeting moments into something tangible. Memories this family can hold onto for years to come.
