There’s something so special about photographing families at the beach, especially on a sunny day like this one. This session was a perfect example of why I love creating Bay Area beach family portraits—they feel relaxed, playful, and full of real moments.
Their two-year-old son was absolutely in his element from the start. He loved the sand, the wide open space, and of course the ocean. His face lit up as he explored, digging his hands into the sand and carefully touching the cold water as the waves rolled in. You could tell the beach was his happy place, and his joy made the session feel effortless.
Mom chose a soft, feminine floral dress that felt just right for the beach, while her son wore a cable knit sweater in the prettiest shade of blue. The colors worked beautifully together and felt timeless without being too “styled.” Everything came together naturally, just like the moments we captured.
Between all the exploring and play were sweet, quiet interactions—hugs, kisses, and shared laughter. These portraits reflect such a meaningful season for this family, one filled with curiosity, growth, and connection. That’s what I aim for with Bay Area beach family portraits: images that feel honest and true to where a family is right now.
All of the images were photographed on medium format Kodak film, which I love for its true-to-life colors and nostalgic feel. Film has a way of slowing things down and preserving moments in a way that feels lasting. Sessions like this are a reminder of why Bay Area beach family portraits are so special—they capture memories that feel as real years later as they did in the moment.
